Samples From Mars Rare Drum Machines From Mars WAV
In our time making sample packs, we’ve been no strangers to rare and peculiar gear. Three of the rarest drum machines we’ve ever sampled are the MPC1, TOM, & Dr. Bohm. We hand-picked our favorite sounds from these packs to make this exclusive Splice pack to preserve the legacy and musicality of these special machines.
The MPC1 drum machine was released in 1982 and coincidentally is not related to the more famous samplers of the same name. It sounds something like an 808 crossed with a 606 and some of the earlier drum synthesizers. But due to its lack of commercial success, these sounds have gone largely unused in modern music.
Also released in 1982, the Dr. Bohm is thought of as the German counterpart to some of the American EPROM based drum machines that defined the 80s. It has a compressed and crunchy sound that we just love! We’ve included the younger sibling of the Dr. Bohm – the Mini Bohm as well.
The TOM, also known as the Model 420, is an 8 bit drum machine released in 1985. It is a Lo-Fi 80s funk machine in a small, lightweight package. we loaded our TOM with custom EPROMs from like-minded 80s drum machines to compliment its sound.
Because of the rarity of these instruments, we knew how important it was to capture them EXACTLY how they came out of the machines – so we did just that, but we made sure to include some fun analog processed alternates. Unlock the lost sounds of early electronic drums with this sample pack!
This pack contains 4 kits from the TOM, 4 kits from the MPC1, and 57 individual hits from the Bohms – for a total of 183 samples.
