Fracture Sounds Midnight Grand v2.0 KONTAKT

Fracture Sounds Midnight Grand v2.0 KONTAKT

Recorded in a spacious concert hall, this Steinway Model D Grand Piano features a layer of cotton between the hammers and strings, which imparts a delicate, cinematic sound.

The felt piano sound has become a staple in every composer’s collection. While most felt pianos are uprights, recorded using their practice pedal, we’ve expanded this concept to a grand piano. After experimenting with different materials, we settled on a thin layer of cotton between the hammers and strings.

This produces a richer, darker tone, and when recorded in a large concert hall, it creates a striking contrast to our other felted piano, Woodchester Piano, which was captured in a small, dry studio.

Enhancing the library further, we’ve included 14 Atmosphere Layers—pads that seamlessly blend beneath the raw piano sound—along with a versatile set of controls. These elements are explored through eight carefully crafted snapshot presets, introduced in the latest update, that act as a great starting point when exploring darker music genres.

New Update
Unlock even more sonic possibilities with our latest Midnight Grand update, featuring innovative response controls that bring it in line with its sister library, Spotlight Piano. We have also added 11 new Atmosphere Layers, expertly curated into eight snapshot presets by the Fracture Sounds team.

A Soft Touch
The new update introduces response controls that allow you to limit the dynamic range, isolating the softest velocity layer and enhancing the signature “felt” sound. The instrument still responds naturally to keyboard velocity without affecting the overall volume.

Detailed Controls
As with all our piano libraries, we have taken a detailed approach to sampling Midnight Grand, capturing every nuance—including the mechanical noises of the pedals and hammers. We have also added a room tone control, allowing you to reintroduce the natural ambience picked up by the microphones, which is often lost during the sample-cleaning process.

Atmosphere Layers
Atmosphere Layers add a rich, evolving pad beneath the raw piano samples, allowing for seamless blending and customisation. Controlled by the Atmosphere Intensity (linked to CC1/Mod Wheel), these layers transform the piano’s sound, making the instrument truly immersive and instantly inspiring.

NKS Support and Kontakt Player compatibility
We are delighted to offer full NKS support for Midnight Grand. Harnessing the power of Native Instruments’ Komplete Kontrol keyboards, you have full hands-on control of the instrument, using the built-in display and parameter controls on the keyboard. This also means that Midnight Grand is accessible to blind and visually impared musicians. Furthermore, Midnight Grand is compatible with the free Kontakt Player, with activation through Native Access, meaning you can use the library without purchasing any additional software. You can download Kontakt Player from the Native Instruments website.
